Stangel Bros Work Bio

After graduating from college, Eric and Justin Stangel got their first professional television job in 1996 working on the final season of the FOX animated series “The Tick.”

The next year they were hired as comedy writers for several daytime shows on the USA Network and also wrote jokes for Norm MacDonald on SNL’s Weekend Update.

In 1997 they got their dream job, being hired as Staff Writers for The Late Show with David Letterman. They were elevated to Head Writers in 2000 and Executive Producers in 2001. They served as the longest tenured Head Writers in Late Night/Late Show with David Letterman history.

In 2008 the Late Show writers released the book “Late Show Fun Facts.”

In 2012, Eric and Justin wrote an Ippy Award winning book, “Goodnight Husband, Goodnight Wife.” Dr. John and Lois Stangel, their parents, bought like 200 copies.

Also that year they wrote for Billy Crystal for “The 84th Annual Academy Awards.” They worked from NY while Billy and the staff worked in LA. On Awards night, they watched it on the couch in their underpants.

The Stangels co-created and executive produced the Emmy award winning daytime variety show Harry, starring Harry Connick, Jr.

They have since sold an animated pilot to Fox called “Lyle & Caroline” starring Lisa Kudrow.

Eric and Justin each have won 2 Primetime Emmy Awards and each have been nominated 22 times.
